The OPP is investigating an attempted murder in Stayner and is searching for a suspect they say is considered dangerous.
Sunday at 11:55 p.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at an address in Stayner and found a person inside suffering from serious injuries.
The initial investigation revealed that the victim was sexually assaulted and then stabbed.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was later air-lifted to a trauma center.
Police say 31-year-old Michael Zaakir of Wasaga Beach stands to be charged with the following:
Attempted Murder
Aggravated sexual assault
Failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court
Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
Theft of motor vehicle
A warrant for the accused has been issued. Anyone with information on Zaakir’s whereabouts is urged to not approach him and call 9-1-1 immediately. He is considered dangerous.
The investigation is ongoing by members of the Huronia West OPP Crime Unit.
