OPP in Caledon have charged three youth with assault with a weapon after the accused discharged their Orbeez firearms at an innocent victim.
Back on June 28th, OPP responded to a call of a person shot by a BB gun. During the investigation, it was discovered that three youth drove by the victim and fired their Orbeez toy at them.
No injuries were reported, but the three accused are each facing a charge of assault with a weapon.
Police say that this is part of the Orbeez challenge on TikTok, where users are encouraged to buy Orbeez soft gel or water balls, load them in airsoft guns, and fire them at unsuspecting victims.
OPP are warning that the Criminal Code of Canada defines a weapon as “anything used, designed to be used for intended use (a) in causing death or injury to any person, or (b) for the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person.” The challenge counts as a criminal code offence.
