The OPP is asking passengers to get involved in the fight against distracted driving.
Acting Sergeant Terri-Ann Pencarinha says she’s seen too many tragic crashes caused by a driver texting behind the wheel.
“If you are the passenger, speak up; it’s your life at risk. Tell the driver you’re uncomfortable with what they’re doing. This can make all the difference, and sometimes a reminder from a friend or family member is all a driver needs. We all play a role in keeping our roads safe. Precious lives are worth far more than that quick text you feel is so important to send off.”
Pencarinha says that keeping our roads safe is up to everyone.
“These head-on collisions are horrific for everyone involved and have had catastrophic results. Put your phone down. Distracted driving remains a serious road safety issue. Every driver has a responsibility to direct their entire attention to driving.”
There’s a $615 fine if you’re caught texting and driving, and you’ll accumulate three demerit points.
