A walk in support of bodily autonomy in reaction to the overturning of Roe V Wade in the United States is set to be held in Port Elgin.
It’s scheduled for Saturday, July 2nd at 11 a.m. at the corner of Goderich and Green Streets.
The event organizers say on Facebook, “People all over the world are feeling the heaviness of the overturning of Roe Vs Wade in the United States. Regardless of location, women, non-binary, transgendered and all birthing people need to show solidarity with our neighbours. Bodily autonomy is a human right.”
The page’s post says, “This is a peaceful gathering meeting at the corner of Goderich and Green. We will then walk green street to the beach and back. We are going to try and avoid Goderich as it’s the long weekend and we want to be mindful of everyone’s safety.”
Last week, the US Supreme Court overturned the Roe V Wade decision which federally recognized womens’ right to abortion. The court ruled the country’s constitution does not confer a right to abortion. It now leaves individual states to decide if they will restrict abortion access.
