The Canada Day long weekend has arrived and the OPP wants everyone to celebrate safely.
While officers will be monitoring highways, waterways and trails, police would also like to remind people to use their safety equipment like helmets and life jackets when required.
Between 2012 and 2021, Central Region OPP says its officers have responded to 52 off road vehicle fatalities, with more than half not wearing a helmet, while there were 58 boating fatalities with over 80 per cent not wearing a life jacket.
The OPP says it has also investigated 567 road fatalities, with 426 of them involving a lack of seatbelt use.
