The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a case of monkeypox in the region.
Not much information has been released about the individual, but the health unit says he spends most his time in Toronto where he likely acquired the infection.
The person is currently isolating and his close contacts have been notified.
A news release says the risk to the general population remains low and the virus has not been detected circulating in Simcoe-Muskoka.
The health unit says it does not spread easily, and residents should not be concerned going about their routine everyday activities.
Symptoms may include fever, chills, muscle, joint and back pain, and exhaustion.
A rash may also develop.
