A vacant building in Sauble Beach was destroyed in a fire Monday night.
South Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief and Manager of Emergency Services Tim Wilson says onlookers reported a structure fire on Main Street at 11:18 p.m. Monday in the parking lot near the former J-K’S department store.
Firefighters from the Sauble Beach station arrived at the vacant structure, which formerly served as a location for Scoopers Ice Cream, to find it fully engulfed in flames.
OPP and Bruce County paramedics were also at the scene.
An image sent to Bayshore Broadcasting News shows a fire truck at the incident location as grey smoke billows into the dark night sky.
The vacant, former ice cream hut was a total loss. Total damages are estimated at around $25,000.
South Bruce Peninsula’s fire chief says the blaze was deemed suspicious in nature, but the cause has not yet been definitively determined.
Wilson says the Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted, but will not be investigating.
