A 35-year-old Northern Bruce Peninsula man has been found guilty of dangerous driving causing death in a fatal collision that took the life of a Wiarton man nearly five years ago.
Superior Court Justice John Sproat rendered the judgement against Justin Lozon in an Owen Sound courtroom Friday, finding him guilty on one of two criminal charges in relation to a crash between a car and a motorcyle on Highway 6 near Lion’s Head in 2017.
Edward (Chad) Honneyman, 38, died in the collision.
Lozon was acquitted on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He had pleaded not guilty to both offences.
Lozon was the driver of a Pontiac G-6 which collided with a motorcycle being operated by Honneyman on Highway 6 near Cemetery Road on Oct. 3, 2017.
The victim in the crash, Honneyman, was a pastor at several Lutheran and Anglican churches on the Bruce Peninsula.
Lozon testified he did not see the headlight on the front of Honneyman’s motorcycle, and that it was off. He collided with Honneyman as he was turning left into a driveway.
Justice Sproat concluded the headlight on the motorcycle was on and should have been visible to Lozon.
Submissions for sentencing will be heard in court on Sept. 12.
