Joey Hishon is leaving his role as assistant coach/assistant general manager with the Owen Sound Attack.
The team issued a statement Thursday morning saying Hishon is moving on from the organization to pursue other opportunities.
Hishon joined the Attack as a regional scout and skills development coach in 2018 and was promoted to the role of assistant coach/assistant general manager in Januaty 2019.
The 30-year-old spent his entire Ontario Hockey League playing career with the Attack from 2007-11, which culminated with an OHL championship in 2011.
Hishon, a Stratford native, is fifth all-time on the Owen Sound franchise (Attack/Platers) career scoring list with 255 points in 214 regular season games. He had 24 points in 22 games in the Attack’s 2011 championship run.
Hishon also co-holds the Owen Sound franchise age-16 season scoring record (47 points in 2007-08) with current Attack forward Colby Barlow.
“My time in Owen Sound has been an absolute pleasure,” Hishon says in a statement from the Attack. “First as a player, then having the opportunity to join the organization as a staff member was a dream come true. The fans are the best in the league and I cannot thank them enough for all the support over the years.”
“Owen Sound will always be a second home to me. My wife, son and I spend a ton of time in the area during the summers and this will never change,” continues Hishon. “The future is so bright in Owen Sound and I truly believe the opportunity to win again is in the near future. Again, thank you all so much for the support. Owen Sound will always have a special place in my heart.”
Attack general manager Dale DeGray: “He was always great with the skills development of the young players. We are truly going to miss him in Owen Sound, but wish him all the best as he moves forward with his career.”
The Attack plan to commence the search for a new assistant coach immediately.
