Owen Sound Attack head coach Greg Walters, as well as Owen Sound native Mark O’Leary — head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League — have been named as coaches for two of the three Canadian teams for the World U17 Hockey Challenge set to take place in Langley and Delta B.C. in November.
Walters just completed his first season behind the Attack bench, guiding the young team to a 34-26-5-3 regular season and a sixth-place finish in the Ontario Hockey League’s western conference. The Attack were ousted in the first round of the OHL playoffs in a decisive Game 7 against the Flint Firebirds.
O’Leary is coming off his second season as head coach of Moose Jaw and led the team to a 37-24-0-7 record in the WHL regular season, and the second round of the playoffs.
Bruce Richardson, head coach of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, is the third coach getting the call from Hockey Canada to lead a Canadian squad at the event.
Walters, O’Leary and Richardson will also oversee the U17 Development Camp taking place July 10-16 in Calgary, which four Attack prospects will be attending.
