Meaford Mayor Barb Clumpus says she will not run for the Mayor’s seat in the upcoming municipal election.
Clumpus made the announcement at Monday’s council meeting.
She told council and those in attendance at the meeting, “It has been my honour and a privilege to serve the residents of the Municipality of Meaford on your council for the past 12 years—the last eight as your mayor. I’m so very grateful for your support. It has been exciting, challenging, rewarding, and an honour to lead a collaborative, strong team of council and staff.”
She continued, “The impressive list of this team’s accomplishments includes restoring financial stability to address deteriorating roads and infrastructure. A focus on community, health, well-being and accessibility, opening a new school and a long-awaited new library, creating a welcoming environment that has attracted residential and economic development, and inviting more inclusive community engagement.” Clumpus added, “The effort put forward to achieve this success has been truly inspiring and I’m so proud to note we’ve done it together.”
She continued, ” The future for this community is certainly bright. The work ahead to strengthen an inclusive, healthy and vibrant community is very important. So it is with mixed feelings that I announce that I will not be seeking a third term as mayor of the Municipality of Meaford. After 12 years on council I require more time for my family responsibilities and I want to pursue other interests. I want to pay tribute to the professionalism and the efficient functioning of our municipality provided by all of our staff and led by CAO Rob Armstrong. They care, and it shows.”
Clumpus added, “I also want to extend best wishes to my colleagues on council who will continue on with this extraordinary journey to serve our community, thank you all.”
The municipal election is set to be held on October 24th, 2022.
