The province’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into an incident where OPP officers discharged anti-riot weapon enfields (ARWENs) at a 28-year-old man in Penetanguishene.
Police were called to a home on Church Street at 11 o’clock Friday night for a domestic situation. They then tried to apprehend the man, who was in mental distress. This is when the ARWENs were used but to no avail.
The man then barricaded himself inside the home. He was then taken into custody at around 5:30 Saturday morning after he attempted to set the home on fire.
The man didn’t seem to suffer any serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for assessment.
