A black bear is apparently roaming around some residential areas of Meaford today.
Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned several bear sightings around Meaford Thursday morning have been reported to authorities.
One witness tells us he spotted the bear around 10 a.m. heading towards Highway 26 near the former Georgian Bay Community School building and notified police.
We’re told the bear was also seen earlier this morning at Memorial Park, which is situated near the waterfront in the northeast end of the town.
The witness described the bear as bigger than a cub, but not a full grown adult.
Grey Bruce OPP are trying to track down the animal. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has also been informed.
We’ve reached out to OPP for additional information.
