Ontario Agriculture Minister — and Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP — says food cost and accessibility will be key to her portfolio over the next four years.
Thompson captured the riding in Thursday’s election with more than half of the votes cast (51.97%), winning her fourth campaign.
When asked what she would like to see from the Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs portfolio, Thompson says groundwork needs to be laid for future policy changes.
“The government is setting the right conditions and right climate for investment,” Thompson tells Country 104.9 News.
“We can add value to crops that are grown right here in Huron-Bruce, and across Ontario.”
As for how to raise the value of agricultural products made in the riding, Thompson says reducing costs for farmers is key.
“Bring food closer to home… what’s driving up inflation? Transportation, and the cost of gasoline,” Thompson tells us.
“Let’s bring the food production closer to home.”
