June is recognized as Seniors Month in Ontario and the 2022 theme is Stay Active, Connected and Safe.
“After a long period of staying home and connecting virtually where we could, it’s time to get out and enjoy in-person activities in the community,” says Steve Lee-Young, Manager of Recreation & Culture Programs. “Through our 55+ Centres, we offer a variety of recreation, education, and active living programs for seniors in our community.”
The City of Barrie will host two in-person Open Houses for the 55+ community this month.
-The Allandale Open House will take place Monday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Allandale 55 + Centre, inside the Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Drive). Some activities include games and streamed performances.
-The Parkview Open House will take place Thursday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Parkview Centre (189 Blake Street). Some activities include a fitness walk, guest speaker, live dancing and games.
At both Open Houses, attendees will also have the chance to learn about the Seniors Advisory Committee and participate in a senior’s survey. Refreshments are also offered at both Open Houses; pre-registration is required to participant in the refreshment opportunities. Participants can pre-register for the Allandale Open House by calling 705-728-5141, and the Parkview Open House by calling 705-737-0755.
