A 44-year-old Grey County man has been charged with mischief after allegedly damaging provincial election campaign signs in Owen Sound.
City Police say they were called to the 900 block of 16th Street East just after 11:30 p.m. Monday night for a report of a male damaging campaigns signs.
As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Grey County resident was arrested and charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000.
“During election years, police receive many calls for service where residents of the city report that their electoral candidate support signs have been damaged, stolen or strewn about the roadway,” a release from Owen Sound Police explains. “The Owen Sound Police Service is reminding the public that it is a criminal offence for any person to remove, damage or interfere with any property that they have no ownership of. This includes election signs. We ask that you respect the views of others and the Canadian democratic process.”
