It’s National AccessAbility Awareness Week.
It celebrates the contributions of Canadians with visible and invisible disabilities as well as recognizes the work being undertaken to remove barriers to accessibility and build more inclusive communities.
In celebration of National AccessAbility Awareness Week, the Town of Collingwood and Collingwood Public Library will be hosting several initiatives with a focus on building awareness.
On Tuesday May 31st at 2:00 p.m., author Heather Gale will join Michael Jacques at the Collingwood Public Library, to read their children’s book, I Belong: Can I Play? a heart-warming story that teaches the importance of inclusion, friendship and belonging. You can also enjoy I Belong: Can I Play? as part of our StoryWalk which follows the Train Trail beginning at the Collingwood Museum.
Michael Jacques will also be speaking on May 31st at 6:30 p.m. at the Collingwood Public Library. Michael is a community leader and activist. Using speech-to-text technology Michael wrote and self-published the book Can’t Read, Can’t Write, Here’s My Book. Michael will share his story to motivate and inspire our community to critically think about inclusion, diversity, and compassion. This is a free event that will be delivered both in person and virtually. To register for the May 31st event visit: www.collingwoodpubliclibrary.ca
