A 25-year-old man faces a long list of charges after allegedly stealing a car from an Owen Sound residence and later pinning it between a house and a tree while trying to flee from police.
City Police say a car was stolen from the driveway of an east side residence during the early morning hours of Thursday, and then driven to a local gas station.
Police say the accused then pumped some fuel into the stolen vehicle and left the gas station without paying.
Owen Sound Police say the car and the 25-year-old male driver were later located in the area of 4th Avenue East and 8th Street East.
According to police, when officers attempted to take the driver into custody he fled in the car.
“And in doing so, wedged the Volkswagen Jetta between a tree and a residence,” city police say in a release.
Several police vehicles were observed on scene at a residence near the corner of 4th Avenue East and 8th Street East around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, where the white car was being towed away. A witness tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the vehicle struck the porch of the home, and someone was on the porch at the time.
Owen Sound Police say the 25-year-old local man was arrested and faces 19 criminal charges, including motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation of a motor, and several counts of possession of property obtained by crime, among other offences.
The accused, who has not been identified by police, is due to make a court appearance Friday morning.
