The results for the Canada Road Safety Week traffic safety campaign are in for Huron County OPP.
Police say between May 17th and 23rd, they targeted risky driving behaviours of impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and failing to wear a seatbelt.
Speeding charges were up significantly from 149 during last year’s campaign to 267 this year and impaired operation charges jumped from just one charge last year to six this year.
They say, although nearly 300 drivers were charged by Huron County OPP during the campaign, they are pleased to report the roads remained free of any serious crashes.
They did investigate 17 less serious crashes during the campaign. Eight of them were animal related. Only one involved injury.
During road safety week, six drivers were charged with impaired operation.
