Two major recreational projects are getting support from members of Saugeen Shores council.
On Tuesday night, Committee of the Whole approved next steps for the Lamont Sports Park, and the aquatic centre.
The Committee has approved funds for the design of the Lamont Sports Park’s Phase 2.
It includes the construction of two youth baseball diamonds.
The Committee has also directed staff to retain Landscape Planning Ltd. as the project’s prime consultant. The consultant will be responsible for design specifications, cost estimates and overseeing construction.
Meanwhile, the Committee also decided to award the prime consultant contract for the proposed Aquatic & Wellness Centre to Salter Pilon Architects, in conjunction with LETT architects. The Town says these companies were chosen after a Request for Proposal led to bids from eight companies, three of which were invited to interviews by the Town.
The concept plan for the Wellness Centre includes a six-lane, 25-metre pool, as well as a leisure pool, conditioning centre, walking track and gym. The Town plans to break ground on the project in May 2023.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says in a statement, “Council is confident in the teams that have been selected to advance the pool and Lamont Park projects”, adding, “We look forward to seeing both projects under construction in 2023. These new facilities will better serve our growing population and enhance the quality of life for everyone in our community.”
The launch for the Aquatic and Wellness Centre is expected to kick off in June, with public consultations projected to begin in August. The community is invited to a barbecue and open house for the Lamont Sports Park on June 4th, from noon until 4 p.m., to kick off the public fundraising campaign for Phase 2.
Council is set to vote on the Committee’s recommendations on June 13th, 2022.
