What’s considered the first unofficial long weekend of the summer has arrived.
It’s the Victoria Day weekend, also known as May 2-4, and as usual, the OPP will be stepping up enforcement on area roadways and waterways to make sure everyone celebrates safely.
The OPP says there hasn’t been a deadlier start to the year on provincial highways in a decade.
Officers will be focusing on the big four this weekend: distracted, impaired and aggressive driving, as well as seatbelt compliance.
This also happens to be Canada Road Safety Week, with the theme “Safer You. Safer Me”, which is meant to emphasize that the decisions drivers make not only affect them, but also their passengers, other drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
OPP officers have the responsibility to notify family members of victims of fatal crashes. Please help us avoid having to deliver this news by driving within the speed limit, wearing your seatbelt, putting down your phone and not driving impaired. #SaferYouSaferMe. #CRSW2022 pic.twitter.com/8d7cdKCa8h
