More support continues to pour in from businesses for the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising campaign.
The campaign announced Wednesday that four businesses have contributed $10,000 each — $40,000 total – to the effort for new ball diamonds at the sports park in Port Elgin.
The four companies that stepped up with the contributions are: The Cooperators – Jocelyn Robbins & Associates, Debbie Duplantis & Hayden Duplantis with RE/MAX Land Exchange Brokerage in Port Elgin, Lakerange Service Centre and Vanderwerf’s Independent Grocers.
“The support from Saugeen Shores businesses has been nothing short of phenomenal,” says Illuminating Dreams Fundraising campaign co-chair Rob Stanley. “These four companies all stepped up to the plate without really having to be asked. It shows how our community is generous in spirit and that its people really care about each other.”
Jocelyn Robbins, owner of The Cooperators: “I’m a huge baseball fan, so it was an easy decision. It’s a great opportunity to be associated with one of the best outdoor facilities in the area.”
Lakerange Service Centre is just down the road from the park, and they have been watching the project progress.
“We love knowing our donation will help with the build’s next phase,” says Lakerange manager Amy Walton.
Independent Grocers’ owners Eric and Cassandra Vanderwerf are new to the area, but they knew they wanted to be involved right away.
“We’ve quickly learned how tightknit this community is, and we wanted to be part of that,” Eric Vanderwerf says.
On the other hand, RE/MAX’s Debbie Duplantis grew up here and decided to contribute with her son and business partner, Hayden.
“We saw the growth in our business, and the amount of people moving to town, and we knew the community’s recreational facilities had to grow as well”, says Duplantis. “That’s why we are happy to contribute to the success of the park.”
Phase 2 of the park development will include two youth baseball fields, and an accessible playground. This will add to the four baseball diamonds built in Phase 1, which are due to open in 2023.
A public viewing of the first phase of the Lamont Sports Park is set to be held on Saturday, June 4. It will be used to help launch the community fundraising campaign for the second phase.
Several community organizations and businesses in the Saugeen Shores area have already contributed hundreds of thousands to the fundraising effort in recent weeks.
Campaign Co-Chair Rob Stanley spoke to Fred Wallace & related the campaign has been very well supported.
