The river district in Owen Sound is going to start receiving weekly recycling collection this week.
The city says starting May 11, in additional to receiving weekly garbage collection, Wednesdays will also be recycling day as well.
Currently garbage is picked up weekly along 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Avenue East from 7th Street to 11th Street and on 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue East.
The city will be working with Miller Waste, who already provides curbside waste and recycling pickup in Owen Sound, to enhance the service in the river district to match the weekly waste pickup schedule.
The city says this change will encourage participation in the recycling program and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
The city says in 2021, more than 1,750 tonnes of waste was diverted from landfills.
The commercial cart collection for businesses will continue every Tuesday.
