Here we go. Game 7.
Ethan Burroughs scored twice and Nick Chenard made 46 saves for his first career Ontario Hockey League playoff shutout, as the Owen Sound Attack blanked the Flint Firebirds 4-0 Tuesday night in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinal at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The series is now tied 3-3. Game 7 goes Wednesday night in Flint.
Stepan Machacek and Colby Barlow also scored for the Attack.
Machacek staked Owen Sound to a 1-0 lead just past the midway mark of the first period, whacking a backhand shot past Luke Cavallin from outside the crease.
Barlow notched his third of the series at 8:27 of the second, picking up a bouncing puck and skating quickly down the right wing before slowing up and firing a low shot five-hole on Cavallin.
The crowd thought the Attack had a 3-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the third. Burroughs shovelled a puck under Cavallin as the Firebirds netminder was down in the crease, which had just been vacated by Deni Goure.
Flint challenged the play for goaltender interference. After a lengthy review, the goal was overturned.
Burroughs broke through at 10:03 of the third period with his first of the series, snapping a high shot to put the Attack up 3-0. He would add an empty-netter with 2:44 left in regulation.
In between all that, Chenard faced a heavy workload and steadied the Attack during several stretches of persistent pressure from Flint. The Firebirds outshot the Attack in all three periods – Chenard made 15 saves in the third to seal the win.
Flint outshot Owen Sound 46-30 while going 0 for 5 on the power play; The Attack finished 0 for 1.
Chenard made 46 saves in the win, while Cavallin stopped 26 taking the loss.
Game 7 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Dort Financial Center in Flint.
