As the week wraps up, so does Progressive Conservative Bill Walker’s time as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
The 2022 election campaign period is set to start next week and Walker announced earlier this year, he would not run for another term as MPP in this June’s election.

He has been the MPP for over ten years. He was first elected in 2011 with 47 per cent of the vote, then re-elected in 2014 with 47 per cent. In the most recent 2018 election, Walker won 54 per cent of the vote.
Walker has served in a number of different positions. He was Chief Government Whip from June to November 2018. He was Minister of Minister of Government and Consumer Services until June 2019, then was Associate Minister of Energy.
Most recently, Walker has been Deputy Speaker since the fall of 2021.
According to his website, Walker has also been the Progressive Conservative Critic for Seniors, Long-Term Care and Accessibility, Community and Social Services, Long-Term Care and Wellness, Children and Youth Services, Deputy Health Critic for Rural and Northern Ontario.
He has also been a Progressive Conservative Caucus Nuclear Chair and was awarded the Provincial Public Policy Stewardship Award in 2020 by the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council.
Walker’s most recent Private Member’s Bill, ‘Championing Made In Ontario Isotopes’ to support medical isotope production was carried last November in the Ontario Legislature.
Before entering politics, Walker was Operations Manager at Bruce Power, and was Executive Director at the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation. He is from Hepworth.
Walker said in a social media post Thursday, “It has been an absolute privilege and honour and a humbling experience which I shall cherish always.”
Walker is scheduled to be on the Open Line on Tuesday, May 3rd on 560 CFOS for a look-back at his time as a local political representative.
