Community members in Saugeen Shores are encouraged to honour Earth Day with a cleanup.
The Town is asking residents to gather at 2 p.m. today for a 20-minute community-wide clean-up.
Citizens can clean-up the area directly around their home, business, or neighbourhood.
They are then encouraged to post online and share their photos with @SaugeenShoresON on Facebook or Instagram.
More than 35 families and groups have gathered at designated areas the entire week to do the same.
“Every little bit helps,” says Mayor Luke Charbonneau, adding, “We have a responsibility to care for and protect the natural assets and resources we’ve been blessed with here in Saugeen Shores. That’s why we have recommended a comprehensive plan to take bold steps in our fight against the effects of climate change.”
A release from the Town says, in March, council approved nine recommendations from the Environmental Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee report on how to help the municipality, including:
Developing a plan to finance a Climate Protection Program,
Working with the County to implement waste reduction strategies,
Investigating an Urban Tree Canopy Plan
Recognizing community members who serve as exceptional environmental stewards.
