Owen Sound firefighters were called to the former Tenneco building on 17th Street East Wednesday night to battle a blaze.
According to a statement from Owen Sound Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol, a call came in at 8:13 p.m. for a report of a working fire in the main electrical room.
Grey County paramedics and Owen Sound Police were also called to the scene.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke throughout the building, and heavy smoke in the electrical room.
Hydro One attended the scene to isolate the electrical service before firefighters entered the room to extinguish the blaze. It was contained to the main electrical room.
No one was hurt.
The building’s electrical equipment suffered extensive damage.
Nicol says ventilation efforts were undertaken to minimize smoke damage to the building.
There’s no immediate comprehensive damage estimate available.
Part of the former Tenneco building is occupied by a hydrogen technology company — Hydrogren Optimized. There’s no immediate word if the fire occurred in its area of the property or if will affect its operations.
