Will Smith has issued a formal apology to Chris Rock, after assaulting him onstage during this year’s Oscar awards.
Smith slapped Rock in the face on Sunday night, after the comedian made a joke about the bald head of the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from Alopecia.
A short time later, Smith won best actor for his role in King Richard.
He has since apologized to Chris Rock on Instagram, writing: “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Police said Rock declined to press charges, while the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences condemned Smith’s onstage assault and said it would launch an inquiry into the incident.
