Owen Sound area residents may have noticed the Frontenac Bulk Carrier is out by Leith today.
For boat watchers who wondered if the ship was stuck, Scott Porter of Canada Steamship Lines says it is not. He says the Frontenac is in deep anchor conducting engine tests before its season begins.
International Shipmasters’ Association President for Georgian Bay – Huronia Lodge Captain Seann O’Donoughue, says the ship is anchored where it will be sheltered just off of Leith due to as there are easterly gale forecasts for tonight and tomorrow.
O’Donoughue says it had departed from lay-up in Owen Sound for the start of the navigation season.
Meanwhile O’Donoughue notes, “Spring storms can be ferocious and are best waited out at anchor due to the amount of residual ice left over from winter.”
