Meaford council has passed a number of tenders for services and construction projects.
During a meeting on March 14, various reports were brought to council by Meaford CAO Rob Armstrong.
Council approved a tender of over $167,000 for a three-year janitorial service contract to Kidron Janitorial Corp. The scope of the work includes the cleaning of main areas, washrooms, kitchens, and placing garbage and recycling bins on the curbside at the Administration Office, the OPP Detachment Office, Council Chambers, Patrol A Depot, Museum, Old Meaford Library, New Meaford Public Library, Sydenham Administration Office, Fire Hall, and Meaford Hall.
Council also passed an over $2 million tender to HugoMB Contracting Inc. for the reconstruction of Gillies Bridge. The report says as the bridge reached the end of its useful life, the project will consist of the full removal and replacement of the bridge structure, including roadside safety devices. The project is set to start May 16 and be completed by Nov. 11.
A tender of nearly $600,000 was awarded to E.C. King Contracting for road surface treatments on 10th Concession from Grey Road 18 to 6th Sideroad, Sideroad 8 from Concession B to Lakeshore Road, and Concession B from Sideroad 8 to Queens Bush Drive. The scope of the work includes the pulverizing of the existing surfaces, replacement of cross culverts and associated drainage works, the addition of granular base material, reconstructing the curve on Sideroad 8 and Concession B, application of double surface treatment, and roadside safety devices. The project is set to begin June 6, and be finished no later than July 8.
Another tender of over $717,000 was approved by council to HugoMB for the rehabilitation of a bridge over East Minniehill Creek. The work includes removing the asphalt and fill on bridge deck, re-grade approaches, patch repair on deteriorated concrete on bridge deck, removing and replacing the barrier system, deck drains, and installing a guide rail. The project is geared to start late-March and finish by Aug. 31.
During council’s committee of the whole, they also approved a tender of over $2.2 million to Arnott Construction Limited for the Cook Street Reconstruction project. The scope of the work includes the replacement of water, wastewater, storm water, and sidewalk infrastructure, and the reconstruction of the road surface and base for about 250 meters from Collingwood Street to Lombard Street in downtown Meaford. The project is set to begin after May 3, and will be subject to 80 working days after the start work order is issued.
“So with the approval of our budget a month ago, these are all projects that were budgeted. It is very important to get these tenders out and get them awarded early in the year because they have to set up and start working throughout the year to get this done. A lot of the projects are going to take the majority of the year to complete, so it was important to get those done,” says Armstrong.
