Flags at Grey County’s administration building will fly at half mast to mark the passing of a former County Warden.
George Schafer who served as Warden in 1983, representing Glenelg, passed away yesterday (March 17) at Rockwood Terrace Long-term Care Home in Durham.
An obituary from McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home says Schafer was in his 82nd year.
It says he was born in Glenelg Township and spent his life farming his family farm. He also had a 30 year career in municipal politics. He started in 1969 as a councillor in Glenelg Township. He was also Deputy Reeve, Reeve and Mayor of Glenelg Township as well as Warden for Grey County.
The obituary says a service will be held at a later date. It also says expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to VON Grey Bruce, Latona Cemetery, the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by Schafer’s family.
