A Barrie police officer has been cleared of any wrong-doing by the SIU, after a woman suffered a broken ankle during her arrest.
Paramedics called police for assistance at a home on Clute Crescent on November 9th, when a woman was in distress and resisted attempts by officers to take her into custody under the Mental Health Act.
Police say after the woman was handcuffed, she refused to place her legs inside the vehicle and as a result, force was used and the woman was later diagnosed with the fracture.
However, the Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, says he was satisfied that the force used was legally justified in the circumstances and the file has been closed.
