Two Owen Sound men face weapons-related charges after police responded to a disturbance in the city’s downtown core Thursday evening.
Owen Sound Police say they began receiving calls about an altercation involving about six people around 8:30 p.m. last night.
Police say as officers were arriving in the area, further information was provided by witnesses indicating a knife and a handgun being brandished during the dispute.
City Police have not provided details about where exactly this incident occurred downtown.
Police say two males described by witnesses were located and taken into custody without incident.
“A folding knife and a pellet/replica handgun were located in the possession of these two males,” Owen Sound Police say in a release. “Further investigation revealed that the pellet gun had initially been brandished by a third party which police were able to identify and arrest.”
City Police say an 18-year-old Owen Sound male has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A 29-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Police say neither of the charged males were knew one another.
Both accused were released from custody on conditions of an undertaking and will attend court in April to answer to their charges.
