A walk to raise money for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in Owen Sound blew past its fundraising goal.
The local goal was to raise $40,000. Support from the community helped participants raise more than that, bringing in $60,000 in total.
The Coldest Night of the Year walk is an annual held all over Canada.
The proceeds of walk in Owen Sound go to Safe N’ Sound in the city’s downtown. Safe N’ Sound is a drop-in centre which also advocates for homelessness prevention and it offers a 24-hour emergency housing service. It also has a health care clinic and provides clean needle exchanges along with other services like laundry and internet service among other things.
