Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this afternoon, Canada is sending 100 Anti-Tank weapons systems and 2,000 rockets to Ukraine along with airlift support to transport supplies and aid.
Yesterday, Canada also announced it would send shipments of body armour, night-vision goggles, helmets and gas masks to Ukraine.
Trudeau also announced the fast-tracking of immigration applications for Ukrainians to come to Canada and to support Ukrainians who are visiting and can’t go home. The government says it is prioritizing the processing of travel documents and passports of Canadian permanent residents and citizens to allow them to return to Canada as soon as possible. He also said Canadian banks are now barred from any transactions with the Russian Central Bank, and announced the banning of all Russian crude oil imports to Canada.
The first round of talks between officials from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia ended today with both sides agreeing to more talks.
Ukraine’s President is pushing for a cease-fire. In Ukraine’s second largest city Kharkiv, fighting took place in residential areas today, with Russian artillery hitting civilian targets.
