Owen Sound’s Building Division has issued a permit for the construction of a new five-storey, 79-unit apartment building at 530 28th Street West, not far from the water in the Brooke area.
The project, by local developer Barry’s Construction, is worth $17 million.
The 79 units will be rentals, with 12 accessible units.
The City says the building will include one, two and three bedroom suites at differing price points. The preliminary completion timeline is summer 2023.
The City says in a release, one of Council’s strategic priorities is ‘A City that Grows,’ a commitment to growth-readiness through public policy, the availability of land and housing, and having the infrastructure to support the growth.
Mayor Ian Boddy says in a statement, “With these 79 units coming, and many more in the planning pipeline, growth is trending in a positive direction. Good growth is planned and strategic, and we’re committed to attracting the housing and industry the community needs.”
A release says, since 2020, the City has issued permits for 298 new residential units including single detached, rental townhomes and apartments.
