A Brampton man is in custody after leading p0lice on a wild ride between Huntsville and Bracebridge.
Tuesday at 9:14 pm OPP conducting speed enforcement on Highway 11 South in Huntsville attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the involved vehicle continued traveling south into Bracebridge and exited on Taylor Road.
Police stopped the vehicle on Taylor using strategically placed cruisers and during the maneuver, the driver struck the police cars in an attempt to flee causing damage.
Officers gained control of the driver and placed him under arrest.
During a search, they found a conducted energy weapon, which is prohibited in Canada, along with break-in tools in the vehicle.
Police have charged 27-year-old Kyle Coombes of Brampton with the following:
· Flight from Peace Officer
· Dangerous Operation
· Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon – five counts
· Resist Peace Officer
· Operation while impaired
· Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
· Possession break in Instruments
· Possession of Prohibited Device – 2 counts
· Instrument for use in copying credit cards-makes
· Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court – Five counts
· Possession property obtained by Crime under $5000
· Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
· Speeding 133km/hr in a posted 100km/hr zone
· Driver fail to properly wear seatbelt – 2 counts
· Driving while under suspension
· Drive motor vehicle no licence
The accused remains in custody and will appear in Bracebridge court today for a bail hearing.
