Canada is easing its border measures.
The announcement came today via Health Minister Jean Yves Duclos.
“As of Feb 28th, the following border measures will be in place,” he said. “First we will be returning to the random testing surveillance program for all vaccinated travelers that were in place before Omicron came in. This means that fully vaccinated travelers arriving to Canada from any country in the world will only need to take a PCR COVID-19 test if they are randomly selected.”
Duclos also said fully vaccinated travelers who are selected under the mandatory randomized testing regime won’t have to isolate while awaiting test results.
And restrictions are also being lifted for children under 12 who are not yet fully vaccinated and travelling with fully vaccinated adults.
Unvaccinated travellers will still need to be tested on arrival and quarantine for 14 days.
Travellers can now use either a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test or a molecular PCR test to meet re-entry requirements.
The changes are due to the country passing the peak of omicron and overall public adherence to health regulations.
Duclos says Canadians should still exercise caution when travelling abroad.
