Two new art exhibits are making their way to the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
Re:Collections is available for viewing now until April 2, with the Hope & Healing exhibit opening on Feb. 14 and running until March 31.
Re:Collections explores the use of fibre as an art form including cloth, thread, paper, and various mixed media.
The exhibit is the result of a collaboration between the group Connections Fibre Artists and the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA). The artists selected artifacts from within the WCMA collection to serve as their inspiration for pieces in the show.
People can view Re:Collections in person online through the museum’s virtual exhibit.
This is the first virtual exhibit of the new year and the second produced by the museum.
Many of the pieces featured in Re:Collections are for sale and details on purchasing can be done by reaching out to Wellington County Museum and Archives Curator Hailey Johnston at haileyj@wellington.ca or by calling 519-846-0916.
For the Hope & Healing exhibit, on Feb. 14, artist Tracey-Mae Chambers will be creating a temporary public art installation at the museum while using only a single, continuous piece of red strong.
The museum says her work is a representation of love and courage, as well as passion, anger, Indigenous slurs, danger, and power.
While Chambers works throughout the day, visitors will be able to watch her work and the process will be captured by a time-lapse video and be photographed.
When the art piece is removed, the string will be returning to Chambers for her next installation.
Later on Feb. 14 between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., Chambers will be delivering an artist talk about her work and will be open to visitors as well as live streamed.
