The latest census data shows both Barrie and Orillia have growing populations. Barrie’s population grew by 8 percent to 212,000 over the last five years.
Orillia was up by 7.2 percent to just over 33,000.
Overall– despite the pandemic, Canada’s population grew at almost twice the pace of other G7 countries from 2016 to 2021, driven by immigration.
Canada is now home to almost 37 million people. The numbers also show most of us live cities and towns, with only about 6.6 million Canadians living in rural areas.
