The Southern Georgian Bay area is posting some of the fastest growth in Canada.
The latest census data show the population of Wasaga Beach has grown by more than 20 percent between 2016 and 2021, to just under 25 thousand.
The Blue Mountains census area shows a growth rate of 33 percent to just over 9,000. Collingwood had a 13 percent growth rate.
Overall– despite the pandemic, Canada’s population grew at almost twice the pace of other G7 countries from 2016 to 2021, driven by immigration.
Canada is now home to almost 37 million people. The numbers also show most of us live cities and towns, with only about 6.6 million Canadians living in rural areas.
