The City of Orillia’s Recreation and Youth Services Division has put together a calendar full of free winter activities to cure the winter blahs and get people active during the month of February.
During WinterActive month, residents can take part in a variety of family-friendly, indoor and outdoor activities throughout the city that will engage, stimulate and challenge everyone who wants to get active. Pre-registration is required for some activities.
“Staying active is essential to maintaining your health. With the recent reopening of recreation facilities, the City of Orillia is pleased to offer residents a variety of ways to stay active and connected during February,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “This year’s WinterActive programs provide wonderful opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities to remain active through physical and passive activities. There is something for everyone, whether it’s participating from the comfort of your home, visiting a recreation facility or enjoying one of our local trails.”
The events and activities of WinterActive are designed to help Orillians improve their health, have fun and enjoy the best of Canada’s winter. This year, the Recreation and Youth Services Division will offer in-person activities that include snow dodgeball, the popular cardboard toboggan race, ‘snow-ga’, dance classes and more.
“It’s been a few years since we have been able to offer WinterActive events in-person due to COVID-19 and we are excited to once again have the opportunity to engage with the community through activities that get you active and connected,” said Megan Visser, Recreation Program Supervisor.
All in-person WinterActive activities within City recreation facilities and outdoor organized events (i.e. cardboard toboggan race) will follow COVID-19 public health measures and will require pre-registration due to current provincial requirements. Visit orillia.ca/sun today to reserve your spot.
For those who are looking for ways to participate in WinterActive from home, the activity calendar has plenty of options to choose from.
