Canadian Mental Health Association of Grey Bruce Program My Dad’s Group is being postponed to later in the month.
The CMHA says the 11-week positive parenting program was geared to start mid-January for the 2022 winter season in Owen Sound and Hanover, but is instead being pushed back to Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
The My Dad’s Group is a program which provides a supportive environment for men to learn and accept their roles in being a father. It assists men in learning about children’s needs at different stages, overcome personal obstacles, and develop self-confidence as a parent and co-parent.
Program Supervisor Jon Farmer says they decided to push back the group start dates in response to the Omicron surge and uncertainty around the return to school.
“My Dad’s Group gives guys the chance to connect with other dads, learn more about their children’s needs and how they change over time, and work on the skills they need to be the safest and most supportive man they can be in the lives of their kids,” says Farmer.
Spots are still available for the Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 start dates with the group meeting on Monday in Owen Sound and Tuesday in Hanover.
Participants will be able to connect with other dads, learn how kids grow, share parenting strategies, and build communication skills.
“Being a dad is important and challenging. Even more so when co-parents are not together or are working through conflict. This group explores real life challenges and gives guys a chance to share solutions and support each other. Support is even more important during stressful times like the pandemic and we’re excited to have the next session start at the end of the month,” says Farmer.
