The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is starting its Community Hub Recreation and Culture Feasibility Study and Business Plan and will be hosting a community engagement session.
The town will be working with McQueen Galloway Associates and Aquatic Associates Consulting for the study to confirm the viability, community demand, priorities, and phasing of recreation and cultural facilities at the future community hub municipal campus in Wiarton.
The town plans to build a new administration building and multi-use hub on about 25 acres of land in the north end of Wiarton. The entire project would involve multiple phases over a number of years and incorporate a new arena.
The results of the study will be used to analyze the needs of the community and will assist in determining which facilities and phases are appropriate for the Community Hub. It will also allow the town to develop a business case for these facilities, and make sure they are financially sustainable in both the long and short term.
Mayor Janice Jackson says, “this study is a very important component to the overall project. We have heard a strong desire for an indoor aquatics centre, we’ve heard about pickleball courts, we’ve heard it all. Now we want to make sure we really get our finger on the pulse of the community wants.”
The engagement session follows the nearly $50,000 contract awarded McQueen Galloway Associates for the work.
Those interested in attending the virtual engagement session can join the Zoom chat on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m., by entering the 412265 passcode. Residents can also join by phone by calling 1-647-374-4685 by using the same passcode.
Those unable to attend the session, McQueen Galloway Associates will be receiving written comments prior to Jan. 25 by emailing tracey@figalloway.ca.
Council is set to receive the final study report this March.
