Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

Among the many shames connected to the provincial guidelines and restrictions announced this week is the halting of hockey in Ontario, including our region.
A hockey fan in Grey-Bruce has so many options and now those options are either restricted or in limbo
In the Ontario Hockey League, the Owen Sound Attack are still operating, but as per the legislation, no fans are permitted at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
The Knights of Meaford are having a terrific year in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League, battling for a top 3 spot in the North Division. However, the GMHL is on pause until January 26th, so the Knights who were scheduled to host the Bradford Rattlers tonight in a huge matchup won’t hit the ice at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre for the next 3 weeks.
In Collingwood, the Blues are running 3rd in the North Division, but the Ontario Junior Hockey League is also ceasing operations for the time being.
The irony of course is that January was filled with home dates on the calendar for the Blues at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.
There’s all kinds of PJHL teams in our broadcast region in both the Pollock & Carruthers Divisions.
The entire league, which is made up of almost 60 teams that compete for the Schmalz Cup, will be off through January 27th.
And the WOAA Senior Hockey League is also on hold for 3 weeks.
They fully intend to return with a revised schedule and altered playoff format in a year in which 7 points separate the top 8 teams in the league.
It’s unfortunate, truly, and all hockey fans can do is hang in there until health & safety at arenas and venues returns
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
