Give the National Football League credit, they fully understand the cliffhanger method that makes episodic TV shows and movies so effective.
For 17 weeks, the 32 NFL teams have battled and with one week left in the regular season there’s still plenty of drama pertaining to who makes, and who doesn’t make, the playoffs.
By my count, 10 of 14 playoff spots have been decided, yet 9 other teams still have their fate pretty much in their own hands heading to Week 18.
In the AFC, 5 of the 7 playoff teams have clinched: Tennessee, KC, Cincinnati, Buffalo & New England.
That leaves 5 other teams in the scramble to grab one of the 2 remaining post season berths available come Sunday..
Somewhat similar in the NFC, 6 teams are in; Green Bay, the Rams, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Arizona & Philadelphia
That leaves 2 teams; San Francisco & New Orleans playing musical chairs for the lone remaining spot.
The drama on Sunday, the final date on the regular season calendar, features 5 meaningful games with playoff implications;
In the NFC;
– New Orleans at Atlanta
& a huge game with playoff ramifications has San Francisco at Los Angeles to face the Rams
In the AFC;
– Indianapolis at Jacksonville
– Pittsburgh at Baltimore
Plus, the final game of the regular season on Sunday night, the Los Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas to meet the Raiders, could be the one that determines who does, and who doesn’t, get to the post season in the National Football League.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
