The Toronto Maple Leafs were scheduled to host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in the National Hockey League, but that game got cancelled days ago, meaning the Leafs next game, technically, won’t be until 2022 when they’re scheduled to host Ottawa on New Year’s day.
If you’re counting, the Pittsburgh postponement is the 6th consecutive game the Leafs have had scrubbed due to COVID-19 protocol.
It’s somewhat ironic that the first game wiped out was actually at Calgary when the Flames were unable to compete due to the virus running rampant through their team.
But then the remainder of the Leafs 4 game road swing was also cancelled as Toronto got hit by the bug in a big way, with more than a dozen players and half as many members of the organization being impacted.
And not just the NHL Leafs, but their farm team, too, was felled.
The Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League reportedly had 24 players & 5 staff members test positive.
So the Leafs will not host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight meaning their inactive streak will go back to December 14th making 18 days between games when, or if, the Leafs host Ottawa on Saturday night.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
