The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) has put out a tender for construction work on the CT scanner suite at its hospital in Kincardine.
A release from the SBGHC says the work would create a 2,000 square foot addition to house the new CT scanner.
Hospital President and CEO Michael Barrett explains, “With the public release of the tender, we are now very close to getting construction of the new CT Suite addition underway” adding, “As soon as we get the CT installed, patients from the Kincardine community will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services.”
The construction tender was publicly released on December 22nd, and a formal announcement regarding the Kincardine CT project from SBGHC, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is expected in the coming weeks.
Funding for this project is being provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and the Government of Ontario, as well as a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power.
The addition will be located directly south of the main entrance, adjacent to the east side of the existing hospital building, and will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom and stretcher holding area.
The purchase order for the Siemens Edge Plus CT scanner was issued on April 29th, 2021, and the equipment is expected to arrive as soon as the addition is ready to receive it.
Deputy Premier and Ontario Minister of Health Christine Elliott says in a statement, “As part of our government’s work to end hallway health care, we are ensuring that Ontarians have access to high-quality diagnostic imaging services closer to home,” adding, “By bringing CT scans to Kincardine, more patients and their families will be able to receive the care they need without having to travel.”
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says, “This is indeed good news,” adding, “This initiative is a much needed valuable addition to the local health care services in Kincardine and the surrounding community.”
Becky Fair, Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation President says, “A CT scanner will be an important diagnostic tool used by our physicians, and will attract much needed healthcare professionals to this area. We are looking forward to the launch of our fundraising campaign in the coming months and we could not do this without the strong support of our local businesses, service groups and community.”
