Next month, Grey Bruce OPP will be switching to an online-only application process to obtain a criminal record check from its Wiarton and Chatsworth detachments.
Provincial Police say the exact date of implementation in January 2022 is still to be determined, but when effective the process for applying for a criminal record check from Grey Bruce OPP can no longer be done over the phone or by attending a detachment.
“This is an initiative by the Grey Bruce OPP to try and streamline the process to cut down on wait times,” says OPP Const. Nick Wilson.
According to a release, upon implementation all applicants must download the necessary forms from www.opp.ca. Once on the OPP website homepage, a link for criminal record checks can be found under the “popular” menu, located directly underneath the search bar. All forms required can be downloaded from that webpage. Acceptable forms of identification are listed on this page. The OPP will not accept health cards, or social insurance numbers as identification.
Once forms for a record check are completed, Grey Bruce OPP say they should be scanned along with two acceptable pieces of I.D. and agency letter (for vulnerable sector checks) and then emailed to opp.grey.bruce@opp.ca.
Upon receiving notification of a completed record check, individuals must still attend the OPP detachment in-person to pick it up, during the following times:
-Wiarton OPP Detachment – Thursdays between 9a.m.-3 p.m.
-Chatsworth OPP Detachment – Tuesdays between 9a.m.-3 p.m.
