Owen Sound Police say a 35-year-old local man was arrested and charged after allegedly wielding a pipe and threatening another man in the city’s River District on Saturday morning.
Police say they were contacted by several residents out of concern after they saw the suspect threaten the man with the pipe while shouting threats and obscenities, and running through the Farmers’ Market area.
Officers arrived on the scene and witnesses were able to provide descriptions of the involved parties as well as the direction they ran off to.
Police say they then attended a nearby restaurant where they found both parties and arrested the accused.
As a result, the 35-year-old man was charged with weapons dangerous, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and causing a disturbance, according to police.
Police say it was discovered the accused had a warrant for his arrest for failing to attend court.
Police say the weapon was recovered by officers after being dropped in a nearby receptacle, and was seized for evidence.
The accused was held in custody and later appeared that day for a bail hearing where he was released on court imposed conditions.
The accused was given a court date for Dec. 16 to answer his charges.
